Over 270 players benefit from MFPA support in 2022

Protecting the rights and interests of football players has been at the heart of our mission from day one.

In addition to the educational, health and wellbeing support services we offer to our members, the MFPA also provides legal assistance and guidance to football players on various matters, ranging from drafting of contracts and contractual disputes to legal representation during disciplinary and appeal hearings, both locally and internationally.

The legal and administrative support services, which are offered free of charge to our members, represent a big part of the MFPA’s work throughout the year. In fact, during 2022 the MFPA assisted over 270 football players with the majority of requests pertaining to the drafting of contacts and termination agreements.

In addition, we have also represented 77 players in front of the competent Malta FA disputes boards as well as in cases that were referred to the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber.

Most of the cases involved non-payments and breach of contractual obligations, such as failing to provide timely and full treatment for injuries sustained by the player while providing football services for the club.

We have also assisted a player who successfully challenged a club’s decision to ban him from training with the rest of the team.

While we remain fully committed to supporting and assisting our members to the best of our abilities, we take this opportunity to thank the members of our administration, our legal team and also our collaborators for their dedication.
